Cameroon School Gets New Roof
IDEA provided $1,500 to Alankie School for roofing material for four new classrooms built by parents. The money was wired to the school on Thursday, arrived at the local bank on Monday; the materials were purchased on Tuesday, and the job was completed on Thursday. The rains began on Friday! Prior to IDEA's contribution, 147 students had to share one classroom.
Cameroon is located on the west coast of central Africa and consists of ten provinces, eight Francophone and two Anglophone. There is corruption at all levels of government.
The two English-speaking provinces are consistently overlooked in the allocation of government funds and projects. IDEA works only in these provinces and concentrates its efforts around Bamenda and the Mankon Kingdom. IDEA’s assistance is to rural schools and to local NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) which provide help to destitute youth.
